Bund Night Walk
Explore Shanghai’s Bund neighborhood, discovering its financial history and iconic buildings on an evening tour. A stunning blend of the past and modernity awaits you.
About this tour
At the agreed time, we’ll meet by the Bund and begin our evening tour. As the city lights come on, an English-speaking local guide walks you past the waterfront’s most storied buildings, unpacking the foreign influence, finance and architecture that shaped modern Shanghai — at an easy, conversational pace. After about an hour we finish on the Bund’s panoramic platform, where colonial façades face the Pudong skyline. We send the exact meeting point by email once your booking is confirmed.
What you’ll see
- 1Holy Trinity Church
We set off near the oldest Protestant church in Shanghai, discussing the foreign influence that took hold after the Treaty of Nanking.
- 2Custom House
Its clock tower, inspired by London's Big Ben, became a symbol of the customs system that powered Shanghai's commercial rise.
- 3Shanghai Steam Navigation Company
A building that played a key role in river trade through the 19th century.
- 4HSBC Building
For years the pride of foreign banking in Asia, standing just across the avenue.
- 5Bank of China
Its architecture reflects the country's economic growth in the 1930s — a gem of Chinese financial history.
- 6Fairmont Peace Hotel
A showcase of Art Deco opulence, and the story of Victor Sassoon, who marked a turning point in Shanghai's transformation.
- 7Jardine Matheson Building
One of the first foreign trading offices established in the city.
- 8Yokohama Specie Bank
A window into how the local economy changed during the Japanese occupation.
- 9The Bund panoramic platform
We finish where colonial architecture meets the skyscrapers of modern Pudong — an image you'll never forget.
